When THANKFUL isn’t so easy – Write 31:Day 21

thankfulclick on this picture to download the printable pdf

In everything, there is a purpose. Each and every moment of this life that we live gives us a chance to be THANKFUL regardless of the outcome. For we know that God is working out blessings for us. {Philippians 4:6}

Everyone helped

Prayers were lifted.  Interventions were made. Yet the problem persisted.

It didn’t look good.

Nothing we did seemed to matter. The doctors said it was simply too late.

“But Lord, didn’t you say that whatever we asked for in your name, we would receive?”

We’ve asked. Pled even. But to no avail.

This is the point where some begin to doubt. –The goodness of God. His promises. Whether it is all just a sham. And I understand their doubts.

It is easy to sit there and hold firm when tragedy and loss haven’t crossed your threshold. To say all of the platitudes that Christians say in such situations:

“God has a plan.”

“Our ways are not His ways.”

“He will use this for good.”

“Lean on Him and He will give you strength.”

But when it is your threshold that has been breached, you don’t want to hear these things. All you can think of is how this is affecting you, how it’s not fair. How God’s not fair.

You wouldn’t be the first to think it, and you certainly won’t be the last.

When hopelessness strikes, how can you be thankful? For that is what we are supposed to be, right? Thankful in everything?

We don’t understand.  Our human minds can’t comprehend the things of God. We don’t see infinitely, nor do we even see tomorrow.

God does.

He knows.

This is where that faith everyone talks about comes in. Trusting that He is a loving God, that His interests are for our good, and that He loves us too much to leave us where we are. Sometimes, whether we see it or not, the tragedies of life are just the thing that we need. Sometimes, they are what gets us to move from point a, to point b. In hindsight it can be seen.  I’ve born witness to this many times though out my life – looking back.

But in the midst of it all, the only thing we have sometimes is the knowledge that one day we will see what we cannot now. One day we will look through the lens of hindsight and see the necessity of it all.

Being THANKFUL in all situations doesn’t mean that we are happy about them. It doesn’t mean we agree with how everything is going down. And it certainly doesn’t mean that we would willingly choose to go through it.

Being THANKFUL simply means that we recognize that God is a good God, that He loves us, and that we know in the end, whether we can see it or not, something good will come from it all, and we are happy that He is on our side.

We may not want to hear them in those moments – the platitudes, but knowing their truth can be the very thing to get you through. And that is what gives us HOPE.

Find a way to be thankful today. In the good. In the difficult. In the tragic.

Because He loves you

Your Place in the UNI-verse – Write 31:Day 20

centerclick on this picture to download your pdf.

Make God the Center of your world, and you will have everything you will ever nee. {Matthew 6:33}

Life is busy.

It was created that way.

Grass is busy growing.

Birds are busy gathering.

People are busy changing.

Creation was always meant to proceed in a forward motion. The universe expands at an alarming rate if you really think about it.  Almost 42 miles per second from what I understand.

But are we growing and changing in the right direction?

If you consider the word universe, you see that uni -meaning having or consisting of one, and is followed by verse -which is “writing arranged with a metrical rhythm, typically having a rhyme”.  There is a rhythm to life, a verse that is repeated consistently around the One that put it all into motion. Whether we recognize it or not, everything we do each day: wake, sleep, eat, breathe, create -were all set into motion at creation. And everything in between that occurs throughout our days are just variations on those actions. We are all moving around a center, both universal and personal

We go about our days rhythmically patterning around that center.

Wider and wider the universe expands with each passing day – the Creator at its CENTER. That is what holds it all together – the Source of creation.

If you really think about it, our own lives expand in a similar fashion – growing, learning, and expanding our knowledge and our reach, around the CENTER of which we originated. Like the universe, we began somewhere – there was a Source, and it is what feeds everything we do. Recognizing that Source and clinging to its power is what keeps us centered and moving in that forward motion.

Have you ever had one of those days where you felt disconnected? When every step you took felt as though you were observing life from a remote place, distant and detached? To me, those times can be very perplexing, and when they occurred, I often wondered what I was missing. What could have knocked me off my axis?

I haven’t had one of those “out-of-body” experiences in years, and I firmly believe that it is because I have found my center – the thing that I move purposely around. The epicenter that keeps me grounded to my days and allows me to grow in the right direction.

Without that grounding I am like a free floating projection, shooting off into space without restraint. I know that sounds like freedom – free floating like that, but like those disconnected days, it is terribly disconcerting. If you can find your CENTER and move purposely around it, everything else will fall into place, grounded and purposeful.

God is that CENTER

He is the Creator of the universe and the Creator of you. He is what gives your life rhythm and purpose. Make Him the Center of each and every day, and the patterns that emerge will be will be beautiful, and your growth exponential.

Are you growing from your center with purpose, or have your days become free-floating? Re-connect to the true CENTER and find your ground.

HOPE – Write 31:Day 1

hope(click on the above picture to download the pdf file to print. please see use restrictions here:   )

“Hope… is the vital ingredient in life that is so often missing. It is what keeps us going when difficult circumstances surround us. Hold unswervingly to the hope that is available to you through the Lord. “{Hebrews 10:23}

1 month

31 days

That is what he was given.

To reflect. To love. To make amends.

To live out what he was sent here to accomplish.

The diagnosis came not long ago. Tiny things unseen were doing battle within; unbeknownst to him. A war was being waged without his knowledge…or permission for that matter, and he was losing…he didn’t even have a chance to fight…to HOPE for the best.

But HOPE he shall, for there is always hope when we focus on who God is and how much He loves His creation. Hebrews 10:23 says He is faithful.

We have this HOPE as an anchor for our soul (6:19) and it is what grounds us when nothing else makes sense anymore.  I’m sure, for him – life has taken a turn into the twilight zone; a place where nothing is as it seems, and threatens to never be again.

I wish that I could say that believing in God’s love would keep him, and all of us, from pain, suffering, disappointment, but that would not be the reality of this world. Can He heal His faithful if we ask Him to?

Absolutely!  He is God.

But for reasons unclear to my weak human understanding, He doesn’t always choose that.

Why?

Why do young people with promise, die every day?

Why are there destitute souls on our streets, who didn’t choose their fate?

Why do the faithful suffer needlessly?

I wish I knewa question for when I am standing one day before the throne.

Until then I chose to hope, and offer hope.

Sometimes that is all there is. And I believe this is that ever important moment when our souls intersect with God’s. When we ask those questions; plead on another’s behalf…or our own.

I don’t know what to say in this situation. I don’t know how to express how much my heart hurts for what hurts others. I don’t have any fathomable idea of what words I could possibly offer except that my Lord Jesus sits on the throne. And no matter what happens to me or anyone else in this life, He is waiting with open arms to welcome home those who love Him.

And that is all the HOPE I need.

a genesis

genesis2016

Here we are again….the beginning of a new year. And isn’t that what a genesis is? A beginning. A new start. A commencement of ….something.

Whether or not you are someone who likes to “officially” make New Year resolutions, I think we all sit here on this day and breathe a sigh of relief. Relief that we can start over – begin again, have a genesis.

-Each morning I sit with my bible, looking for God’s words for me, His instructions for the day so to speak. Most often I don’t have a reading plan, I will simply open it to a page – any page, and read. I trust that whatever page I fall upon will hold truth for me. And it usually does. Not always the truth I want to hear, mind you. But truth none-the-less.

This morning as I popped it open, it did not open to a page, but to the beginning, the genesis of the book….a blank page before it begins.

And I contemplate that.

Accident?  I think not. There are no accidents. Everything means something….it is just whether we want to look deeper for the truths meant for us.

A blank page. A new beginning. The old has gone, the new has come. I get a do-over.

Looking deeper I realize that Genesis sets the stage for the rest of the book. It’s a story of purpose and plans, failure and redemption. It reveals the person and nature of God: Creator, Sustainer, Judge and Redeemer.

It is the very first description of God that catches my attention this morning: Creator.

In a majestic display of power and purpose, we see our beginnings;

  • full of beauty

  • full of glory

  • full of purpose

  • full of….promise.

And it makes me want to create something great, to make something out of nothing – something beautiful. And isn’t that what an artist does? Create something from naught but an idea. Whether you write, draw, work with wood, garden….it doesn’t matter really what your medium is – it begins with an idea in your mind. An idea placed there by the Father of all creation. A genesis that can become something beautiful. Something from nothing. That is what God does.

I am nothing – yet, He is creating in me something beautiful: a Genesis.

Those ideas from last year? Seeds for the coming year. Seeds that when planted can become something intricate, magnificent, and glorious. Our job as creators is to grow that seed. Place it in fertile ground, water it daily, and give it the nourishment that it needs. Before long, you will be looking at a magnificent tree of life – something from nothing [but an idea].

So, here is a toast to new beginnings and creating something from nothing.

You can do this; the Creator made you in His very image, and He can’t do anything but.

Happy 2016, and happy creating!

Soli Deo Gloria!
