The Wisdom of the Elves – Write 31:Day 30

If you Listen closely, you can hear the whisper of your soul. That is the voice of God speaking to you. Pay attention – His words are life! {Deuteronomy 13:4}

The world is changed

I feel it in the water

I feel it in the earth

I smell it in the air

Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.

Okay – my geek is showing 🙂 I just returned from a Lord of the Rings Marathon, and I am filled with the melodies of its amazing soundtracks. As I thought this morning about what I was going to write for the word LISTEN, Galadriel came most readily to mind. Her prologue into this amazing story is not only haunting, but intuitive., and full of wisdom. (watch the short video clip above if you don’t know what I am talking about – all of you who have managed to avoid the power of the one ring 😉 She listens to the sounds of the earth and the reverberations of her spirit. She listens closely – and therefore sees and hears and feels what many others do not.

Are you listening?

If you listen closely you can hear the whisper of your soul – the murmur of your spirit.

The “voice” of God can manifest itself in so many ways. It can be through the words of a friend or scripture, a particularly memorable dream, or even a great movie or song.

God chooses His delivery creatively through the means that most speak to you.  I am particularly alert in the midst of story and music.  I love to find the deeper meanings hidden within them, draw parallels to my own life and experiences. They are a conduit for me to hear, especially with music, because it is then that my inner ear is most tuned to something beyond the noise happening around me. Sometimes when I need to quiet the talking within, I don some headphones and plug into meaningful music, preferably something without lyrics so that God’s words can enter in between the notes, full and gentle. Caressing my mind and filling my soul.

The prophet Elijah knew this intimately. He was a man prone to highs and lows. Experiencing the presence of God one moment, only to be plunged into fear the next. Does that sound familiar to you at all?  It does me.

There are days that I am so certain of His presence, so sure of His anointing. The highs climb to unfathomable heights. But it doesn’t take much for the enemy to plant a little seed of doubt within me. And sometimes I listen to those as well.

But when I hear the faint whisperings in my heart, like a gentle wind on a mountain top,  I stop and LISTEN. Like Elijah, I look for the presence of God, and when I  hear His whispers, His words of love and presence, HOPE finds a place in my heart.

Your Place in the UNI-verse – Write 31:Day 20

centerclick on this picture to download your pdf.

Make God the Center of your world, and you will have everything you will ever nee. {Matthew 6:33}

Life is busy.

It was created that way.

Grass is busy growing.

Birds are busy gathering.

People are busy changing.

Creation was always meant to proceed in a forward motion. The universe expands at an alarming rate if you really think about it.  Almost 42 miles per second from what I understand.

But are we growing and changing in the right direction?

If you consider the word universe, you see that uni -meaning having or consisting of one, and is followed by verse -which is “writing arranged with a metrical rhythm, typically having a rhyme”.  There is a rhythm to life, a verse that is repeated consistently around the One that put it all into motion. Whether we recognize it or not, everything we do each day: wake, sleep, eat, breathe, create -were all set into motion at creation. And everything in between that occurs throughout our days are just variations on those actions. We are all moving around a center, both universal and personal

We go about our days rhythmically patterning around that center.

Wider and wider the universe expands with each passing day – the Creator at its CENTER. That is what holds it all together – the Source of creation.

If you really think about it, our own lives expand in a similar fashion – growing, learning, and expanding our knowledge and our reach, around the CENTER of which we originated. Like the universe, we began somewhere – there was a Source, and it is what feeds everything we do. Recognizing that Source and clinging to its power is what keeps us centered and moving in that forward motion.

Have you ever had one of those days where you felt disconnected? When every step you took felt as though you were observing life from a remote place, distant and detached? To me, those times can be very perplexing, and when they occurred, I often wondered what I was missing. What could have knocked me off my axis?

I haven’t had one of those “out-of-body” experiences in years, and I firmly believe that it is because I have found my center – the thing that I move purposely around. The epicenter that keeps me grounded to my days and allows me to grow in the right direction.

Without that grounding I am like a free floating projection, shooting off into space without restraint. I know that sounds like freedom – free floating like that, but like those disconnected days, it is terribly disconcerting. If you can find your CENTER and move purposely around it, everything else will fall into place, grounded and purposeful.

God is that CENTER

He is the Creator of the universe and the Creator of you. He is what gives your life rhythm and purpose. Make Him the Center of each and every day, and the patterns that emerge will be will be beautiful, and your growth exponential.

Are you growing from your center with purpose, or have your days become free-floating? Re-connect to the true CENTER and find your ground.

Whispered PROMISEs – Write 31:Day 15

promiseYou have been given a Promise. God loves you, and that will never change. The knowledge of this can get you through the toughest of times. {Psalm 100:5}

“Your day will come.”

The melody filled the room with sweet notes. My legs churned round and round as I rode the exercise bike and listened to the song’s sweet promise, as though a promise from God Himself. At the time, I was attending a writer’s conference and had several scheduled appointments that day with editors and agents. The stress of it all produced a migraine while I slept, and I awoke that morning afraid that I would not be able to get through all of my commitments.

I needed a distraction. So, shedding my jammies and shrugging into sweats, I rode the elevator down to the hotel’s workout room. I sat on that bike, praying for what seemed like hours, asking God to intervene, to take this pain from me so that I could accomplish what I had set out to do, what He had set in my path to do. I was making more out of it than I should, really.  I had only been writing for a year and had much to learn yet, many more experiences at conferences and meetings like the ones I faced that day.

Then I heard the song. It rang loudly, as though someone had turned up the volume so that I would pay attention to what it was telling me. “Your day will come.” I simply knew that it was a message…for me… from God….straight to my heart.  Instantly the fog lifted and my migraine began to fade.  I closed my eyes, breathed deeply, and rode that bike for all it was worth. With arms stretched high and wide, a smile returned to my face, and for the remainder of the day – a spring in my step.

I had received a PROMISE.

A promise of love really. I’ll bet you have received one as well. God loves you and He is working on your behalf. To give you a wonderful future, heal your heart, and bring you closer to Him.

As I attended all of my meetings that day, I did it with a spirit of learning, of wonder at how God was going to work in my life through this new venture He was sending me on.  I received great encouragement from everyone that I met with. I did not receive “the deal” as I had thought I would – I wasn’t ready.

I had many more lessons to learn…I still do.

Since that day, I have discovered that the song is really “our day will come” by Ruby and the Romantics. But that morning I distinctly heard “your day”. Not a mistake I think. The PROMISE that He set in my heart encouraged me to listen and learn, to keep a fire lit in my spirit with the knowledge that was imparted through those four little words spoken in song. It didn’t matter what happened in those meetings. I wasn’t concerned about whether or not someone else liked what I wrote.  I knew that one day they would. All that mattered to me in that moment and throughout that day, was that God loved me. He has a plan for me, one that will bring me great joy and a future.

He promised.

Are you needing a revelation from God today? Do you need to hear a PROMISE that will help you get through the day, the week, your life? He seeks to speak to you. It may come in the form of a dream, timely words from a friend, or even a song in the exercise room of a hotel 1500 miles from home. If you are really listening, you will hear it; hear the PROMISE spoken to your heart.

And it will bring HOPE to the place where you need it most.

TRUTH – Write 31:Day 10

truth(download and color this image!)

“Truth is the foundation for a well-balanced life. Growing in faith requires that we seek the truths of God, feeding our souls with true nourishment.”  {1 Timothy 4:6}

Ice

That is what I saw from my precarious perch at the top of the hill, two slick slices of fiberglass strapped to my feet, rendering them for the most part immobile. A silent fear slid into my stomach, but I pushed it away as I pointed the tips of my skis downhill and slipped over the edge.

Truth is I never should have been there to begin with.  I hadn’t been on skis in years, many more than I even care to think about. Add to that knee surgery and many unwanted pounds, and you have a recipe for disaster.

But I formed a new truth in my mind: “You can do this!  How hard could it be? There are toddlers skiing down this hill.” This new truth, although making for an exciting afternoon, only served to nudge me in a direction that I shouldn’t have been going. A course that I wasn’t prepared for. Icy conditions complicated an already tenuous prospect, but I was determined to do it my way.

The day ended in a blown out knee – my bad. I knew better, and yet…..

How often do we balance on that precarious edge of life, looking down at the icy slopes that we know we should avoid, and yet begin the trek with the truth staring us in the face? What will it take for us to look that truth in the eye and heed its warning?

The truths of God will give us a solid foundation for a well-balanced life. Our own truths, the ones we create ourselves and want to believe? Not so much. These “truths” more often than not, take us to a place of injury and pain, and honestly, I’ve had enough pain.

I’m ready to loose the straps of my truths in favor of strapping on God’s truths. Then, I know for sure the slope will be balanced and safe, keeping me from harm and giving me HOPE for the journey ahead.
